Biography
James T. Sparkman, Esq. is a skilled trial lawyer who has focused on insurance defense litigation since he began his career in 1984. He has completed over 300 jury trials throughout Florida as “first chair.” Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Florida Bar since 1996, Mr. Sparkman is a two time recipient of the distinguished “Golden Gavel Award” for trial superiority.
James’ practice has focused on personal injury, catastrophic injury, and wrongful death in the areas of Motor Vehicle Liability, Premises Liability, Construction, Professional Liability, Roadway Construction, Transportation and Trucking liability. He has also handled bad faith and coverage cases. James’ notable appellate opinions include: Elkins v. Syken, 672 So.2d 571 (Fla.1996) expert witness discovery; State Farm v. Lee, 678 So.2d 818 (Fla.1996) PIP statute of limitations; Hannah v. Newkirk, 675 So.2d 112 (Fla.1996) PIP deductible as setoff. James has also defended nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
James has earned the highest peer review recognition from the Martindale Hubbell Law directory, “AV Preeminent.” He managed his own law firm from 1998 to 2007 that serviced clients in Monroe, Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Martin counties. For the next 12 years he served as trial counsel for a respected, statewide Florida insurance law firm.
James earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Tennessee (1975). He earned a Masters degree from the University of Tennessee (1978). James obtained his Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University (1984).
James is admitted in Florida (1984). He is admitted to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida (1985). James is also admitted to the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida (2006).
