Biography
Ashley L. Cooper, Esq., is a Junior Partner in the Fort Myers office and Co-Chair of the Insurance Coverage Practice Group. She is an experienced trial and appellate attorney having tried many cases to jury verdict and argued cases in front of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit. As our firm’s coverage co-chair, Ashley analyzes nuanced coverage issues, assisting carriers and their insureds with evaluating contracts, risk, exposure, and liability (e.g. Farinas cases involving multiple claimants). She enjoys identifying opportunities for both risk transfer and refinement of contractual language. Ashley additionally focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation, construction liability litigation, construction defect litigation, first party property and third party property cases. She also handles general liability, commercial automobile, bad faith, SIU, errors & omissions, workers compensation, homeowner’s association and professional liability matters.
Prior to joining the firm, in addition to her collaborations with various insurers and Coblentz litigation, Ashley advised general contractors and owners/developers [or national firms] of risk transfer strategy and implementation. She also assisted insurers with claims via EUOs, fraud investigation, coverage determinations, risk analysis, and early resolution. Ashley has worked for both national and Florida insurance defense firms defending bad faith, construction litigation, commercial general liability, professional liability, D&O, E&O, workers compensation, commercial auto, builders’ risk and property damage cases. Representing commercial policyholders, in August 2019, Ashley lectured members of the Florida Bar Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law Section on 3rd party coverage issues.
Ashley earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Richmond (2009). She obtained a Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law (2011), graduating early. Ashley is admitted in Florida (2013) and District of Columbia (2015). She is also admitted in the United States District Court for the Northern (2015), Middle (2015) and Southern (2014) Districts of Florida and to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit (2019). Ashley’s peers and Super Lawyers nominated and awarded her the distinction of “Rising Star.”
